90s Trivia FAQs
What years count as ‘the 90s’?
1990 through 1999, start to finish. When trivia folks say “the 90s,” they mean everything from January 1, 1990 to December 31, 1999, so a 1999 release still counts and a 2000 release does not.
What was the highest-grossing movie of the 90s?
Titanic (1997). James Cameron’s three-hour shipwreck epic made about $2.26 billion worldwide and held the all-time box office crown until Avatar took it in 2009.
Which team won the most Super Bowls in the 90s?
The Dallas Cowboys, with three: Super Bowls XXVII, XXVIII, and XXX, from the 1992, 1993, and 1995 seasons. The Broncos won back-to-back titles at the end of the decade, but nobody else in the 90s won more than two.
When was Google founded?
1998. Larry Page and Sergey Brin incorporated Google Inc. on September 4, 1998, back when most of us were still on dial-up and Ask Jeeves felt like the future.
What was the best-selling video game console of the 90s?
The original PlayStation. Sony’s PS1 sold over 102 million units worldwide, more than triple the Nintendo 64’s roughly 33 million. Final Fantasy VII, Gran Turismo, and Metal Gear Solid did most of the heavy lifting.
Can I use these questions for a pub quiz or classroom quiz?
Please do, that is what they are for. Read each question out loud, give teams a minute to write down answers, then reveal the answer before moving on. For classrooms, run one category per round to keep the energy up.
The Short Version
The 90s were the last decade before everything went online: grunge on the radio, appointment television, the Bulls’ dynasty, the birth of Google and Amazon, and a news cycle nobody could look away from. These 105 questions bottle that decade into six quiz-ready rounds.
