Calculate the exact aspect ratio of your screen or resolution. Enter a width and height, then choose a new width to find the proportional height without stretching.
Aspect Ratio Calculator
Reduce a resolution to its exact ratio and resize without stretching.
How to calculate an aspect ratio
Enter your resolution’s width and height in pixels. The calculator divides both numbers by their greatest common divisor to show the simplest whole-number ratio.
For example, 1920 × 1080 simplifies to 16:9. Enter a new width to calculate the proportional height.
Common resolution examples
| Resolution | Exact aspect ratio |
|---|---|
| 1920 × 1080 | 16:9 |
| 2560 × 1440 | 16:9 |
| 1920 × 1200 | 16:10 |
| 1024 × 768 | 4:3 |
| 3440 × 1440 | 43:18 |
| 3840 × 1080 | 32:9 |
These ratios describe the entered pixel dimensions. A display’s marketing label may use an approximate ratio.
How proportional resizing works
The calculator uses this formula:
New height = new width × original height ÷ original width
For a 1920 × 1080 source, changing the width to 2560 produces a height of 1440. When the calculated height is fractional, the tool rounds it to a whole pixel, which can slightly change the final ratio.
Does aspect ratio change field of view?
Aspect ratio describes the relationship between width and height. It does not determine how a particular game handles its camera. A game may show more horizontal space, crop the image or stretch it.
Use the FOV Calculator to compare field-of-view geometry across resolutions.
