How this works: Pokémon stats are calculated from a species’ base stats, its level, invested EVs (Effort Values, 0–252 per stat, 510 total), its nature (which boosts one stat 10% and lowers another 10%), and IVs (Individual Values, 0–31 per stat, hidden by default). This tool reverses that formula — given everything except the IV, it tells you which IV value(s) could produce the stat you’re seeing. Two Pokémon of the same species, same level, same moves — and one of them just hits harder and survives longer. That’s not luck in the moment, it’s genetics baked in from the start. This calculator reads your Pokémon’s visible stats and works out exactly which hidden values are driving that difference.
What Are IVs and EVs, Really?
Every Pokémon has six stats — HP, Attack, Defense, Sp. Atk, Sp. Def, and Speed. Two things you can’t see determine how those stats turn out:
- IVs (Individual Values) — a hidden number from 0 to 31 for each stat, set the moment a Pokémon is generated (caught, hatched, or received) and locked in forever after. Think of it as its genetic ceiling.
- EVs (Effort Values) — stat points earned through battling, vitamins, or training. You can invest up to 252 EVs in a single stat and 510 total across all six.
A Pokémon’s Nature also plays a role, quietly boosting one stat by 10% and cutting another by 10%. All three — base species stats, IVs, EVs, and Nature — combine into the number you actually see on the summary screen.

What Does This Calculator Actually Do?
You already know almost everything about your Pokémon except the one number that matters most for competitive play: its IVs. This tool works backward. You give it what’s visible — species, level, Nature, EVs invested, and the stat number shown in-game — and it runs every possible IV from 0 to 31 through the same formula the games use, checking which ones land on your exact stat.
Sometimes that lands on a single exact IV. Other times you’ll see a range instead of one number — that happens when more than one IV value could produce the same visible stat at a low level or with few EVs invested. It’s not a wrong answer, it’s just not narrowed down yet. A gold ★ next to a stat means a flawless 31 IV is one of the possibilities.
How to Use the Calculator
- Type your Pokémon’s species into the Species field and pick it from the suggestions.
- Enter its Level — higher levels generally give more precise results.
- Select its Nature from the dropdown.
- Enter the stat numbers exactly as shown on your Pokémon’s summary screen, for whichever stats you want to check.
- Enter the EVs you’ve invested in each stat. If you’re not sure, leave it at 0 — you’ll still get a result, just a wider range.
- Hit Run Genetic Scan.
Narrowing Down an Uncertain Range
If a stat comes back as a range instead of one clean number, you don’t need to guess — you can force a tighter answer:
- Invest EVs in that stat (through battling or vitamins), then re-check the same stat with the new EV value entered. More invested EVs generally shrinks the range.
- Check at level 100 if you can. Higher levels spread the possible stat values further apart, which narrows down which IVs could actually produce your number.
- Run the scan on all six stats, not just one — a full picture helps you judge the Pokémon overall even if one or two stats stay ambiguous.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this work for Pokémon GO?
No. Pokémon GO uses its own IV system — 0 to 15 per stat, no EVs, no Natures, and a completely different formula tied to CP. This calculator is built for the mainline console and Switch games.
Can a Pokémon’s IVs change over time?
No. IVs are set the moment a Pokémon is generated and never change afterward. Leveling up, evolving, or using vitamins doesn’t touch them — only EVs move.
What counts as a “good” IV?
For casual and Raid play, anything in the mid-20s and up per stat is solid. For competitive teams, most players aim for 31 in every stat that matters for their set — except sometimes Attack or Speed, which are occasionally lowered on purpose for specific strategies (like minimizing confusion self-hits or losing Speed ties intentionally).
Why did I get a range instead of one exact IV?
At low levels or with few EVs invested, several different IVs can produce the exact same visible stat — the math genuinely can’t tell them apart yet. Investing more EVs in that stat or checking again at a higher level gives the calculator more to work with and usually narrows it down.
